The Application of Surface Sizing

Surface sizing has multiple effects, not just to obtain good sizing properties to increase the anti-wetting property of the paper. In most cases, it is designed to increase the surface strength of the paper and improve the abrasion resistance and durability of the paper. What is more important is that it can improve the fluffing and dry linting of the paper, so as to improve the writing and printing performance of the paper. In addition, the surface sizing can also improve the physical strength of the paper, such as breaking resistance, folding resistance, tensile strength, delamination resistance, ring crush compression resistance and stiffness.

Surface sizing is mainly used for banknote paper, securities paper, drawing paper, advanced writing paper, offset printing paper and other high-quality paper. Surface sizing is also required for paper species with high loading or paper species produced by pulp species with high content of fine fibers and hybrid cells.
